Having to let Toan go from Shortys was probably the hardest thing I ever had to do as a team manager. It wasn't my call at all, I was just the messenger from the higher-ups I don't think Chad even knew? The management definitely made me the fall guy for Smolik, Toan, and Jesse getting let go. I didn't even have a say in the matter. I was just the new guy helping build the AM team with Marius, Torey Oliver, and Rodrigo. I remember how bummed Toan was, I actually went to his apartment and let him know face to face. The biggest problem with Shortys was the management that took over after Tony left. I only lasted a year and a half at Shortys.

Olson was just this odd balls to the wall, impossible to find or interview type of character

It’s insane to me how clockwork the story of either use to be great ams or pro just don’t skate anymore… where is the love and passion? I’ve had struggles in my life with skating and at 42 I’m still out there going for it, cause I love it so much. You hear guys like toan (just using as a reference) who just completely give it up….idk, I always find it interesting especially all the work they put in skating over the years.
